Huntsville High School - 2011 Panthers Baseball

Regional Play-Offs

April 23, 2010 - The Huntsville Panthers Dropped Game 1 before Weather forced Suspension of Game 2 to resume on Monday

Game 1:  Huntsville Panthers 2, Grissom 10
Grissom jumped up to a 2-0 lead in the top of the 1st, but Andrew Dennis' homerun tied the game in the 3rd inning.  From there, the Panthers bats were connected on solid line drives into the outfield, but they seemed to always fly straight into the hands of Grissom Tiger defenders.  In short, Huntsville hit the ball where they were, but they hit where Huntsville defenders were not.  Huntsville walked too many batters and Grissom hitters capitalized - driving in 5 unearned runs.

Game 2 - Suspended in the bottom of the 1st - to resume on Monday
Grissom wasted no time getting their scoring in gear with 2 outs in the top of the 1st inning when Blake Crank stepped to the plate and slammed the first pitch he received well beyond the left field wall to put the Tigers up by a score of 2-0.  Panther pitcher promptly struck out the next Tiger to close the top of the 1st.  Steven Cole had just reached base and Andrew Dennis was about to step in the batters box when a bright flash of lightning stopped play.  With rain coming in, the game was then postphone to resume on Monday afternoon.  Start Time TBD

April 16, 2010 - The Huntsville Panthers Advanced to the Regional Finals after two straight wins over Bob Jones

The Game 1:  Huntsville Panthers 18, Bob Jones Patriots 3
The Panthers came out swinging backing up an outstanding 7 inning pitching performance by Luke Leeth going the full five innings while giving up 3 runs on five hits and struck out 11.

The Panther offense was firing on all 9 barrels as they jumped out to a 5-0 lead during their first at bat.  But, Bob Jones bounced back to close the gap to 5-3.  This rally was quickly squashed when Austin Hatfield connected on a Grand Slam to give the Panthers a 13-3 lead in the 4th inning, thus putting the game back in full control of the Panthers.

Game 1 Offensive Summary
Clay went 1-2 and scored 3 runs; Steve Cole scored 2 runs; Andrew Dennis went 3-4 with a double and scored 3 runs; Anthony Rapiere went 1-2 and scored 3 runs; Austin Hatfield went 2-4 with a "Grand Slam" and scored 2 runs.  Steven Script went 2-4 with two doubles and scored 3 runs.  Ryan Barnes went 2-4 with a Home Run and scored 2 runs. Garrett Thornton went 2-4 and scored 1 run.

The Game 2:  Huntsville Panthers 7, Bob Jones Patriots 1
In this game, the Patriots came back with determination and jumped out to 1-0 lead in the top of the first with 2 runners on base ready to add to their lead.  But, Daniel Koger, who went the full 7 inning distance on the mound for the Panthers would not allow that to happen.  He shut down the Patriots batters sending the Panthers at bat in the bottom of the 1st with only a 1 run deficit.  During the 7 innings, Daniel gave up one run on 4 hits while striking out 7.

The Panther offense got rolling in the 2nd inning when Andrew Dennis hit a 2xRBI single to put the Panthers on top 2-1.  With Andrew on base, Anthony Rapiere stepped to the plate and slammed a powerful crush well beyond the right field wall to put the Panthers up 4-1.  From there, the Panther pitching and defense tightened to keep the Patriots in check through 7 innings of play.  With this win, the Panthers advance to the Regional Finals where they will play the Grissom Tigers.
