April 13th - Huntsville closed its season with a pair of wins on Senior night.
Game 1: Huntsville Panthers 13, Lee Generals 1 The Panthers came out swinging on Senior night
as Anthony Rapiere started the offensive explosion by leading off the 2nd inning with a solo home run that turned into a trio
of home runs when Austin Hatfield and Cody Burton each slammed solos out of the park. When the fireworks subsided, the
Panthers held a 13-1 lead going into the top of the 4th inning. Ryan Barnes went the distance on the mound and collected
the win as he shut down the Generals offense.
Game 2: Huntsville Panthers 6, Lee Generals 5 This game was a different story as the Generals offense bounced back to tie the game at 5 all going into the
5th inning. Clay Holcomb came to the mound and got the win by closing down the Generals in the top of the 6th and the
7th. The score was still tied as Andrew Dennis lead off in the bottom of the 7th. On the first pitch, he
slammed the ball out of the park to get his 3rd walk off homerun of the season bring his total homerun season count
to 9.
April 9th - Game 3: Huntsville Panthers 6, Grissom 5 The
Panthers rebound to finish as area runner-up as Andrew Dennis hit a solo walk off home run to give the Panthers a 6-5
win. This was the 2nd time in this series where the score ended in a 6-5 decision for the Panthers. Clay Holcomb delivered
an outstanding performance to earn the win after coming to the mound in to relief during the 5th inning where he game up no
runs to give the Panthers an opportunity to win. This win insured the Panthers a position in the Regional Playoffs starting
on Friday April 17th.
April 9th Game 2: Panthers 4, Grissom 17 The Grissom Tigers bounced back with a scoring
fury to take game 2 by scoring 17 runs to claim the area championship by the 5th inning of play.
April 8th - Panthers win a 6-5 thriller against acrhrival Grissom Tigers
in Pivotable Area Play Game 1: Daniel Koger pitched 7 solid innings to give the Panthers a crutial
win in game 1 of this 3-game series with regional playoff berths and home field advantage at stake. Austin Hatfield's
3xRBI home run, along with an RBI double by Garrett Thorton backed by an RBI single by Anthony Rapiere gave the
Panthers the offensive thrust they needed to win a close game that went the distance. Daniel Koger struck out 2 in the
bottom of the 7th to seal the win and polish off an outstanding evening on the mound.
April 6th - Panthers split a double header with Bob Jones
Game 1 - Huntsville 6, Bob Jones 5 Details to follow Game 2 - Huntsville 3, Bob Jones 17
Huntsville-Hazel Green: After
a dissappoint loss in game 1, the Huntsville Panthers bounced back in this important area series to win 2 straight games.
These wins enabled Huntsville to split this series 1-1 with the Hazel Green Trojans. However, with
Huntsville winning the 3rd game, they now hold claim to the “tie breaker” against both Buckhorn and
Hazel Green. These tie breakers could prove pivotal for the Panthers hopes to advanced to the
regional playoffs which start the third week of this month.
Game 1: April 2nd
- Huntsville Drops first game at Hazel Green by score of 12-2. The Panthers managed on 4 hits, most of which occurred early in the top of the 1st inning. Clay Holcomb
and Steven Cole each opening with singles. Both stole 2nd and 3rd. Clay came home on passed ball and
Anthony Rapiere hit a sacrifice fly to score Steven putting the Panthers up 2-0. From there, Hazel Green took charge
under the strong pitching from Grant Bennett who then allowed only two more hits the entire game. The Panthers will finish
this series with 2 games that will be played at HHS on Saturday, April 3rd
Game
2: April 3rd - Huntsville Panthers
5, Hazel Green 3 – The Panthers jumped up by a score of 3-0 and held on to win this pivotal
game. Daniel Koger pitched the entire 7 innings for the Panthers and kept the Trojans offense contained.
Koger gave up only 2 runs on 3 hits while walking only 1 and striking out 9.
The Panther offense will
fueled by Steven Cole (single, double and 2xRBIs), Garrett Thorton (2xRBI single), and Andrew Dennis (RBI single).
Game 3: April 3rd
- Huntsville Panthers 16, Hazel Green 9 – This game gave Huntsville the Panthers
the very important “tie breaker” in the event that Huntsville and Hazel Green finish area play with equal records.
The Panthers jumped up by a score of 3-0 in the bottom of the 1st when Andrew Dennis
hit a 3xRBI homerun that drove home Clay Holcomb and Steven Cole. But the Trojans responded with 4 runs
in the top of the 2nd when Hazel Green’s Mason Cotheren hit a 3xRBI homerun to tie
the score at 3 all, followed by an RBI single from Justin Riddle.
The Panthers
exploded with 6 runs in the bottom of the 4th when Steven Scrip, Garrett Thornton hit RBI singles, and CJ Urban
hit a sacrifice fly. Next, Clay Holcomb slammed a 3xRBI homerun giving the Panthers a 14-4 lead.
The Trojans wouldn’t quit as they dug in to mount a comeback in the top of the
5th inning when Trojan Shortstop, Todd Wilkerson hit a 3xRBI homerun that trimmed the Panther’s lead to 6
runs. In their next at bat, the Trojans added 2 more runs to cut the Panther lead to 14-8.
But the Panthers would not budge as they responded with 2 more safety runs in the bottom of
the 5th as Austin Hatfield opened with a lead-off double and was driven home by Steven Scripp’s RBI single.
Next, Clay Holcomb followed with his 4th hit and 4th RBI for the game putting the Panthers up 16-8.
The Trojans would add 1 more run in the top of the 6th.
Ryan Barnes
opened on the mound for the Panthers. Chandler McCully, gave the Panthers 3 and 2-third innings to get
the win as he struck out 8 Trojan batters. Casey Lambert relieved, and Luke Leeth each closed to save the
Panther’s win. The Panthers finished this series with a 2-2 record in Area play while holding 2 tie
breakers that could prove pivotal. Next up, the Panthers will play regional foe, Bob Jones, in a double
header on Tueday April 6th.
March 30th, Huntsville-Sparkman: The Huntsville Panthers took 2 straight
games in a double header at Sparkman High School.
Game 1, Huntsville 14, Sparkman 9 - The
Panthers exploded out of the gate scoring 9 runs in the top of the 1st inning when Clay Holcomb and Steven Cole each had 2
hits in the Panthers first at bat. Clay Holcomb lead off the opening at bat with a single, stole 2nd
and 3rd and was driven home by an RBI single from Steven Cole putting the Panthers up 1-0. Later in the same
inning, Steven Cole returned with a 2xRBI double as the Panthers built a 9-0 lead off of only 3 hits taking advantage of a
series of walks and errors. All this, before the Senators could get a single at bat.
From there, the Panthers coasted to a 14-9 win. Luke
Leeth, Casey Lambert, Chandler McCully, AJ Cole, and Daniel Koger all saw action on the mound for the Panthers with Chandler
McCully pitching 2.33 innings and getting the win. The
Panther offense was lead by Steven Cole who had 2-singles, a double and 5xRBI’s. Game 2, Huntsville 8, Sparkman 0 - the Panther pitchers; Andrew Smelser, Gant Weeks, and
Tony Schultz shut down the Senators offense in an 8-0 win. Smelser pitched four innings and was relieved by Gant
Weeks who pitched 2 excellent innings. Tony Schultz closed the final inning.
The Panther offense was lead
by Clay Holcomb with 2 singles, Anthony Rapiere hit 2 singles with 2xRBI’s along with a lead-off double.
Steven Script added a two singles with an RBI. Also, Steven Cole, Daniel Koger, Cody Burton, and
Garrett Thornton each added singles. Next up, the Panther return to area action when they face Hazel Green
for a 3-game series starting with the first game on Friday night at 7:00PM at Hazel Green, with the final two games following
on Saturday at HHS starting at 3:00PM.
March 27th, Huntsville-Buckhorn:
The Huntsville Panthers split the series with Buckhorn winning game 1 by a score of 5-0, then falling 12-11 at Buckhorn on
Saturday. The Panthers came back in game 3 to win the tie breaker 10-0. This series
leaves the Panthers with an area record of 1-1. The tie breaker comes into play and gives the Panthers
an edge if Huntsville ends its season tied with Buckhorn in area play. Area play consist of 4 teams;
Buckhorn, Grissom, Hazel Green, and Huntsville.
The current area standings are as follows: Buckhorn 1-1, Grissom 2-0, Hazel Green 0-2, Huntsville 1-1
Game
1: Friday March 26th, Huntsville 5, Buckhorn 0 - The Panthers won game 1 of a 3 game series tonight as
Luke Leeth went the distance on the mound striking out the first 9 batters. Luke went on to pitch a shutout
where he give up only 2 hits, 2 walks, while striking out 16. The
Panthers opened scoring in the bottom of the 1st inning when Steven Cole got on base with a walk, Andrew Dennis
singled, and Anthony Rapiere followed with a single that scored 2 runs. The Panthers added a 3rd run in the bottom of
the 3rd inning when Evan Brindley hit a deep sacrifice fly to right center field.
The
score remained at 3-0 until the bottom of the 6th inning when Austin Hatfield hit a 2xRBI homerun putting the Panthers up
5-0 going into the top of the 7th. From there, Luke leeth took control and closed with 2 strikeouts to finish the
game.
Panther Offense was lead by Austin Hatfield’s
2xRBI homerun, Andrew Dennis, Anthony Rapiere, and Garrett Thornton each contributed 2 hits. Steven Cole
and Daniel Koger each added a key single, while Evan Brindley added an RBI single. Next up, the Panthers
head to Buckhorn on Saturday for a double header to finish this 3-game series.
Game
2: Saturday March 27th, Huntsville 11, Buckhorn 12 – The Huntsville Panthers jumped out to 6-1 lead
before Buckhorn stormed back scoring 7 runs in the bottom of the 4th inning. The Panthers answered
with 3 runs in the top of the 5th to regain a 9-8 lead. But this was short lived as Buckhorn’s
catcher, Daniel Mills crushed a “Grand Slam” in the bottom of the 6th inning to put his team up 12-9.
The Panthers made a solid rally in the top of the 7th when AJ Cole singled, Austin Hatfield walked and CJ
Urban hit a 2xRBI single. But this rally stalled 1 run short giving the Bucks a 12-11 win.
The Panthers Offense was lead by Andrew Dennis who hit 2 homeruns and a single
that collectively accounting for 3xRBI’s. Austin Hatfield hit a 2xRBI homerun plus an RBI double.
Others getting multiple hits were Clay Holcomb (Db+S), Anthony Rapiere (2-S), AJ Cole (2-S), and CJ Urban (2-S with
3xRBI’s). In addition, Steven Cole hit a single, and Garrett Thornton added a key RBI single.
Game
3: Saturday March 27th, Huntsville 10, Buckhorn 10 – The Huntsville Panthers stormed back with a
vengeance in game 3 scoring a 10 run shutout to take the tie breaker. Ryan Barnes went the distance on
the mound for the Panthers pitching a shutout in 5 innings, giving up only 3 hits, 2 walks while striking out 5.
Clay Holcomb set the tone for the Panthers early with a lead-off double.
Steven Cole followed with a single advancing Holcomb to 3rd. Both Clay and Steven then advanced
home on stolen bases and infield errors putting the Panthers up 2-0. From there, the Panthers kept pounding out hits and generating
runs until they were up by the 10-0 run rule margin after 5 innings.
The
Panther Offense was lead by Clay Holcomb (Doubled, hit an RBI Single, and a Solo Homerun), Anthony Rapiere (Doubled, and hit
a 2xRBI Homerun), Austin Hatfield (RBI single, Solo Homerun), Steven Scrip (Doubled), and Steven Cole, Andrew Dennis, and
Garrett Thornton each added singles.
Next up, the Panthers will head to regional foe, the
Sparkman Senators, on Tuesday March 30 for a double header.
March 23rd – Huntsville 4, Austin 3: The
Huntsville Panthers edged past the Austin Black Bears by a narrow margin of 4-3 in game 1 of a double header.
In this game, the Panthers brought 4 pitchers to the mound to get warm-up action before area play starts later this
week. Casey Lambert got the most time on the mound going 3 innings giving up no runs, allowing no hits,
while walking only 1 batter and striking out 4.
Austin
jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the 3rd inning, but the Panthers answered back in the both of the inning
when Steven
Cole hit a lead-off double, then stole his way to 3rd before advancing to home on an errant throw by the Black
Bears.
Austin added their 3rd
run in the top of the 4th inning when Trey Walker hit a solo homerun. This would be their last
score as Casey Lambert entered the game and shut down the Black Bear offense allowing no hits and only 1 walk.
The
Panthers tied the score in the 5th inning after Steven Cole was hit by a pitch, followed by a single from Garrett
Thornton. Austin Hatfield hit a 2xRBI single that brought the two runners home. From
this point the score remained tied until the bottom of the 7th inning when Evan Brindley hit a walk off triple
to drive home the winning run.

March 23rd
– Huntsville 16, Austin 6: In game 2, the Panthers blew the lid off their offense and scored 16 runs while
giving up only 6. Again, the Panthers brought 4 pitchers to the mound with Chandler McCully, Gant Weeks,
and CJ Urban each pitching in 2 innings.
Austin jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top
of the 1st as Spenser Beasley lead off with a solo homerun to get the Bears scoring in gear. The
Panthers answered with 2 runs in the bottom of the 2nd when Austin Hatfield hits a 2xRBI homerun.
The Black Bears answered by adding another run in the top of the 3rd and seemed to have the Panthers subdued.
But, the Panthers offense ignited in the bottom of the 4th when AJ Cole lead off with a solo homerun.
From there, the Panther offense exploded with Austin Hatfield leading the way. Steven Scrip followed with an RBI single, Evan Brindley hit a sacrifice fly driving
in Steven Scrip.
Clay Holcomb doubled, Steven Cole hit an
RBI single, Andrew Dennis walked to load the bases, C. J. Urban earned an RBI walk, A. J. Cole hit an RBI single, and Austin Hatfield return for his second bat
in the inning and once again hit a double that produced 2xRBI’s.
The Panthers lead 12-6 when they came to bat in the bottom of the 6th inning when Garrett
Thornton lead with a single. From there, the Panthers loaded the bases setting up a grand slam, walk-off
home run by Steven Cole to close the game out in 6 innings driving the final score to 16-6. Next up, the
Panthers begin area play as they will start with a 3-game series against Buckhorn on Friday and Saturday.
