2010 Pre-Season Tournament
Feb 22nd - JV Panthers 7, Grissom 8: The JV Panthers suffered a disappointing loss to Grissom in their final game of the pre-season
tournament tonight, losing 7-8 in the bottom of the 7th inning. The Panthers got their bats
going early and jumped ahead 7-2 in the second inning. Grissom slowly battled back scoring 3 runs in the
3rd inning and tying it up 7-7 in the 6th. Their winning run was scored on an 0-2
walk-off smash to center field in the bottom of the 7th.
Tonight’s pitchers were Nic Light, Chris
McCain, Taylor Knight and Adam Beasley. Beasley, Jacob Pyles and Jordan Cole each hit a single, Pyles also
hit a double and Brantley Johnson hit a triple. Chris McCain and Josh Faint each had an RBI and Johnson
had 3 RBIs. In the field tonight, Beasley had 4 putouts and 2 assists, Alec Voytko scored an assist, Jordan
Cole had an assist and a putout, Nic Light had an assist, Johnson had a put out, Taylor Propst had 2 assists and 2 putouts,
McCain had a putout and Carson Finnell scored a putout.
Feb 20th - JV Panthers
16, Hazel Green 4 - The JV Panthers capped off their pre-season tournament
pool play with another big win. They bested Hazel Green 16-4. Contributing with their
bats were hitters Chris McCain(2), Adam Beasley, Brantley Johnson, Taylor Propst, Josh Faint, Nic Light(2 singles &
a triple), and David Connor. RBIs were attributed to McCain, Johnson, Propst, Faint(3), Pyles, Light(3),
Scheppe, Cole, and Connor(2).
On the defensive side, recording assists were Scheppe, Light, Beasley, and Cole(4
from behind the plate). Putouts were had by Johnson, McCain(3), Scheppe(3), Light and Beasley.
Pitchers for the game were Andrew Dieterich, Alec Voytko, Josh Faint and Drew Dunaway. This win
put them in 2nd place in their pool so they will face Grissom Monday night at 6:30 at Sparkman High School.
Feb 18th - JV Panthers 0, Bob Jones 16 - The JV Panthers didn’t
fare as well in their 2nd game of the pre-season tournament. Bob Jones won 16-0.
Pitchers for this game were Taylor Knight, Colton MacLeod, Mitch Kavanaugh, and Jacob Pyles. Recording defensive putouts
were Carson Finnell, Brantley Johnson (3), Evan Abston, Josh Faint, Dylan Scilabro, and Andrew Dieterich. Abston also recorded an assist.
The Panthers had five hits for the night, singles from David Connor, Brantley Johnson, Taylor Propst, and Josh Faint
(2).
Feb 16th
– JV Panthers 11, Cullman 1 - The
JV Panthers got off to a great start in their 2010 pre-season outing by beating Cullman 11-1 in the opening game of the pre-season
tournament. Brantley Johnson, Adam Beasley, and Taylor Propst all took a turn on the mound combining for
zero earned runs. Johnson faced 9 batters in two innings and recorded 4 strikeouts. Beasley
also faced 9 batters in two innings with seven strikeouts. Propst faced five batters with 2 strike outs.
When the ball was put in play the pitchers were backed up by some great defense. Chris McCain had
an assist and a putout at short. Cory Scheppe recorded a putout at first. Brantley Johnson
recorded a put out in left field and Jordan Cole had an assist from catcher, throwing a runner out at second as he tried to
steal.
The Panther bats were also hot tonight: a triple by Nic Light, doubles from McCain and
Cole, and singles from McCain, Beasley, Johnson (2), and Propst added up for a total of eight hits. Tonight’s
RBI count included McCain, Beasley(2), Johnson, Propst(3), Light, Scheppe, and Cole.
